Jawahar Institute of mountaineering & Winter Sports is a joint venture between Ministry of Defence, GOI and Deptt. Of Tourism Govt. of J&K. it is located at Pahalgam and sub training centers at Sanasar, Bhaderwah and Shey (Leh). The Institute has excelled in various mountaineering activities and adventure sports over last 29 years. Silver Jubilee

The Institute celebrated its 25th years of its existence. The president, vice president Executive Council members, Ex Principals and RMOs were invited to mark this occasion. The function was inaugurated by the President of the Institute Shri AK Antony by lighting the lamp. The Silver Jubilee Celebration lunch was organized by the Institute for invitees marked the culmination of the official celebration.

Visit by Hon'ble Chief Minister of J&K

Hon'ble Chief Minister Mr Omar Abdullah being the Vice President of JIM&WS visited Institute on 16 Aug 2009 to experience and observed the adventure activities carried out at the Institute. The CM and his family will fully participated and were amazed to see and experience the adventure activities like rock climbing, rappelling, water rafting and river crossing carried out with the Institute with mouthful praise he appreciated the arrangements and efforts put into by the Principal and the Instructors of JIM&WS.
